As this seasons’ fashion trends begin to trickle down to consumers from the runway, a few distinct trends have been established.
Similar to previous seasons, an underlying theme is hard to define—instead, it’s a composition of varied trends and influences put together to form individual styles. The season has just started, so we aren’t seeing any micro trends just yet, but they are sure to come. A few trends to point out off the top; skirts over pants, baggy denim, and bubble skirts. Below you’ll find the top 10 trends and where to shop them.
Shades of Blue
The S/S ‘24 runways were chock-full of blue; More specifically— icy, soft shades. All shades of blue are created equal for this trend (i.e. cobalt, mint), but the light, icy blue could easily ripen into the color of the year.
We know pastels are nothing new for Spring, so stores are rolling out tons of cool pieces you could get your hands on. Brands like Paloma Wool and Zara are doing this really well.
Bubble/Balloon Skirts
Designers are dredging up their 80’s/mid 2000’s archived looks for this transitional season. Puffed clothing has been all the rave for a few months and it will definitely be sticking around for a while.
The bubble-ness is not limited to skirts, however; We’re seeing it translated into dresses as well. Stores like Zara and Lisa Says Gah have many cute bubble-fied pieces you can get your hands on.
Stripes
We all know and love the Adidas stripes trend that took over our hearts in 2023. Stripes are continuing to be the pattern of the year and the trend is very easily assessable to any body wanting to partake. From pinstripe to blocky stripes, anything goes.
Pop of Color Sneakers
Last year’s rising star, Onitsuka Tiger, has been on the up and up ever since their popularity in 2023. Specifically their Kill Bill yellow sneakers and their silver metallic sneakers were on every fashion girl’s feet. The trend has not died and we’re still seeing bright/pops of colors on our sneakers. Brands like Puma and Adidas have great options for colorful sneakers.
Skirts Over Pants
All fashion forecasters have agreed on one thing- skirts over pants are IN for 2024! Similar to its other Y2K counterparts, this trend has been met with mixed emotions. For some, wearing a skirt over pants is too bold: however, the fashion lovers out there have taken this trend and worn it in ways that made it their own. Some stores are selling skirt-pants together as a pair, but it’s easy to take part in as long as you have a cute skirt and pants.
Chunky Jewelry & Glasses
This trend has been around for a while and is not going anywhere. We’ve seen all the fashion influencers wearing layers and layers of jewelry, thick sunglasses, and chunky rings. Some of my favorite unique jewelry brands I have found on SSense and Pinterest.
Hoodie Tops
Pulling from another severely Y2K born trend, this 2024 is the year of hoods. Originating from Disney red carpets, hoodie tops are being seen across the globe within the fashion community. One of my current favorite micro-influencers, @Susielola has the best collection of hoodie tops. Lots of U.K. based brands like Peachy Den are on top of this trend right now.
Mesh Material Shoes
The S/S 24 runways were filled with these little mesh flats. With the resurgence of ballet shoes in 2023, we are seeing different variations for this Spring. The mesh material offers a new, refreshing update to the classic ballet flat. The trailblazer for last years trend, Mui Mui has come out with an assortment of different styles of their ballerina shoes. On a more affordable note, Steve Madden has an exact dupe to the Alias Mae flats. Sandy Liang, of course, has done this trend beautifully, as well as Dear Frances. Sustainably speaking, vintage mesh sneakers are on the rise as well. If that’s your vibe, make sure you’re searching for lightweight, mesh sneakers on Depop or your local thrift store. The Nike Air Rift split-toe sneakers are one of my 2024 highlighted shoes.
Cardigans
This essential piece to everyone’s Spring wardrobe can be found anywhere and everywhere. No matter the season, a little cardigan is very reliable to pull an outfit together. Whether you’re layering up or wearing one on its own, It adds a sophisticated vibe to any look. If you want to be unique, try searching for a cardigan with interesting buttons.
White Everything
White, white, white is the name of the game this Spring. All white everything is nothing new for this upcoming season. Pick up a white baby tee or statement shirt for your warm weather outfits; you can’t really go wrong with styling this trend.
