Why Make Lasagna in the Crock Pot?

If you've never made lasagna in the crockpot you are in for a treat. Crock pot lasagna is a timesaving wonder compared to traditional lasagna. It's easier. You can use uncooked lasagna noodles. It cooks more slowly and evenly so it's less likely to burn or dry out. It won't bubble up and out over the pan making a mess in your oven.

Just layer your ingredients in the crock pot and let it cook. If you're using a programmable crockpot, you can set it to start cooking at a certain time so that your lasagna recipe is ready when you are. And for the prettiest results it's nice to use a casserole crock pot (affiliate link).

The best part of cooking new recipes in the slow cooker? The wonderful aromas that waft through the house all day.

How long does it take to cook lasagna in the slow cooker?

Most recipes for crock pot lasagna will be ready in 4 to 6 hours when cooked on the low setting, which is the preferred setting for lasagna. Since the meat is already cooked you are just cooking until the noodles and any added raw vegetables are tender.

The exact total time will depend on the size of slow cooker you use as well how hot your slow cooker cooks. Newer slow cookers tend to cook hotter than older ones. For best results your slow cooker should be at least ⅔ full when you use it.

Do you have to cook your lasagna noodles first?

No. I prefer to use the no-boil (also called oven-ready) lasagna noodles that are readily available on supermarket shelves these days. But regular lasagna noodles also can be used dry without boiling them ahead.

How to store leftover crock pot lasagna?

Slow cooker lasagna recipes tend to make a large portion so leftovers are common. You can refrigerate your leftover lasagna in an airtight container for about 4-5 days. It also freezes great too. We like to package it up in individual containers and freeze for future quick and easy WW friendly lunches and dinners.

What are the best side dishes to serve with lasagna?

Lasagna is definitely hearty enough to eat on its own. As a lifetime Weight Watcher I like to serve a salad or vegetable alongside. This allows me to be satisfied with less of the tasty pasta dish so I end up eating fewer calories and points. Many people like bread for mopping up any extra sauce, always a nice thing if carbs or calories aren't a concern.
